Volunteers are crucial to the success of this project. All volunteers are given training to develop their communication and coaching skills. They are then carefully matched with individual clients.

The role is an interesting and rewarding one for people who enjoy meeting others and helping them to make lasting changes. No particular experience is necessary, but good listening skills are essential, together with a sense of humour and an open mind. This role would be excellent experience for someone who is looking to pursue a career in support work, social work, mental health or homelessness fields, and ideal for those with such experience already, to ‘keep their hand in’.

The ongoing commitment required (after the initial induction) is about an hour a week, and can include evenings and weekends, so it’s easy to fit it in around your other responsibilities.

How can I volunteer for Transitions?

Transitions Volunteer Coaches/Mentors are recruited throughout the year, but must undertake the initial training, which is held approximately three times a year, prior to being able to work with clients. It is also subject to satisfactory DBS check and references.
